3202 Shalom Way, South Bend, Indiana 46615

Buttons and Bows was a children’s clothing store founded by Miriam Price. Many older South Bend residents remember Buttons and Bows as a happy place where they later brought their children to shop. She was an amazing woman who balanced career and family while always being impeccably dressed with a smile on her face. She employed many women in the Jewish community who offered friendly and personal service. At one time there were stores in South Bend and Mishawaka.
Miriam Price, a Sinai Synagogue member, owned Buttons and Bows for 23 years from approximately 1962-1995. Another Jewish-owned children’s clothing store was the Little Folks’ Shop, which was owned by the Alberts family in downtown South Bend.
Thanks to Indiana Humanities for awarding us a grant for this project and to all the volunteers who helped put this together (especially past and present community members who agreed to tell us their stories).
